I would also try cleaning the pf encoder and inspect it. I have seen it throw some weird cr errors.

You never said which machine it is. The most common problem the head getting caught on the release holder. check where the head is when it stops.

If the machine is only a couple months old, I would put in for service. This is odd for a new machine. Sounds like a deflected or failing magenta channel. I would also check the cables. clean head and carriage cable ends with alcohol.

Leave extra on the front when you load the media through the machine. Then hand roll it back at least 1 full wind. This should get everything straight. I would try printing and turn the take up by hand (leaving slack). This will determine if it is the cause or something else.
