  1. Encapsulating Hot Lamination - Problems

I could probably paint them, but it is something I have never done before. I also despise painting. Granted it was commercial painting I did before, not signs, but still. Bad memories. I once dropped a gallon of paint in someone's carpeted living room. We had plastic everywhere but a whole...
  2. Encapsulating Hot Lamination - Problems

That is an image of him holding one of the original posters. Note they are hand painted. No waves in them. They do have a lot of curl, though.
  3. Aircraft graphics

Years ago I made vinyl for a fleet of helicopters. I made them and they installed them. It is my understanding that vinyl cannot be applied to, or near, leading edges. Winglets are leading edges, I am quite sure. I would tell them to stick with paint, but that is me. I am terrified of massive...
  4. Encapsulating Hot Lamination - Problems

Not wavy at all. That would make things easy. That's now how this works.
  5. Encapsulating Hot Lamination - Problems

I have the pull/chill bar, but I do not have the attachment that keeps the chill bar cool. However, I was under the impression that was only for long encapsulating runs, which I never do. This was three 3x4 foot posters. Could lowering the temperature help?
  6. Colex Media Feed Roll Setup

I like to think better of people. Rarely pays off, but I am stubborn.
  7. Encapsulating Hot Lamination - Problems

A Vietnam Silent Service vet came in asking me to reproduce his old encapsulated posters that were all yellowed and beat up. I tried to take him down a different path but he wanted them as close to as they were as possible. He even requested they be hand painted(as his were. That was an...
  8. Encapsulating Hot Lamination - Problems

HP Latex 360, SIHL 3689, Remington 5 Mil Gloss Low Temp Laminating Film. The humidity has shot up and temp has gone way down in the last week, if that matters.
  9. Printing Magnetic on Flatbed

I must not. I have no idea what that is. EDIT: Oh reel to reel. Yes, I have that, but requires an insane amount of waste on the leading end.
  10. Colex Media Feed Roll Setup

Years ago I decided it would be beneficial to have a way to mount and unroll roll media off the back of the colex flatbed. Here is the contraption. A colex tech saw it and was taking pictures while praising it, so it must be pretty cool, or at least unusual. Behold. lol
  11. Printing Magnetic on Flatbed

After years of doing it the hard way, my right hand man suggested we stick it to a sheet of steel and run it through like that. So, I went to a local HVAC place and had them cut me a 48x48 sheet of ducting steel. It works perfectly. The only hard part is aligning it on the sheet since it wants...
  12. Encapsulating Hot Lamination - Problems

I have encapsulate laminated many many times but today I had strange waves in the lamination. I am not sure what went wrong. I used the right temperature and pressure(same as previously used that was successful), but it came out awful. Does anyone have any tips and/or know what I did wrong? TIA
  13. Need Colex Compatible bits for 10mil Coro

Do you guys not have a cheat sheet? All I did is go down the list and find the first bit that was "strongly recommended" for hard and soft plastic. Then I messed with the setting until I got a good cut. There are a few bits that will probably work just as well. I'll go ahead and post it so you...
  14. Need Colex Compatible bits for 10mil Coro

Spindle speed: 10,000 Feed: 300 Plunge: 50 Single pass Standard cut(counter/anti clockwise). There are usually a few tiny scraps of plastic i have to pull off by hand, but very minimal.
  15. Printing Mesh Banner on 360 and 365

I don't. Even the stuff that "works" will occasionally have carriage strikes. I print all mesh on a UV flatbed/R2R printer. I have never had a problem on the HP FB550. Not a single one in ~6 years.
  16. Suggestions Cutting .04 aluminum

It seems your and my sound advice has gone unheeded. Their loss, I suppose.
  17. Suggestions Cutting .04 aluminum

Have you tried the settings I suggested? You should not need to remove any burr from the edge if you are using the right settings. Try what I suggested with a new bit. I suspect you will have no need for your newly acquired tool. EDIT: Posted this on another unrelated thread and just realized...
  18. Laminating Bubble Issue

Matte is amazing at hiding defects. In my experience with motorcycle laminates, quite extensive at this point, you should expect a few bubbles here and there. I assume it is down to the thickness of the laminate and gloss accentuating any defects while matte hides them. I do not know your...
  19. Selling used large format equipment?

We recently sold an old printer to a guy in Uganda. I will ask the owner how he found that buyer tomorrow.
